OZTF Predictions | 27-May-2004 17:23:54 | |||
| ||||
It seems another OZTF season is upon us with some new teams and all the old favourites. One thing that always seemed to get people fired up was when people posted their predictions about who would finish where in the competition. Nothing seems to get people more annoyed than someone on their soapbox talking about stuff they are obviously biased about so lets go! 1st PnP Hard to look past with lots of experience and the addition of Zut to strengthen to the team. I think PnP will get up by the smallest of margins once again this season in an another intense finals series against J. I am also biased and have to say PnP will finish 1st! Strengths – Attack, addition of Zut, experience in finals Weaknesses – Defence sometimes Shakey, loss of key players Opportunities – Zoom returning to his old ways Threats – Litigation centred on monopolistic behaviour 2nd J I see J and PnP as pretty much even at the moment, and the end result will come down to circumstances and luck from both teams. They showed they could match it with PnP last season, so this one shouldn’t be any different. Strengths – Solid both on defense and attack. Weaknesses- Some maps like Canalzone, best team not showing up. Opportunities- Strong marketing campaign targeting AZN TFers. Threats – Uni, Basketball taking up 80% of time, anime and immigration issues. 3rd A The bolters who will finish 3rd this year due to some new recruits and lots of playing time in pugs. Were very ordinary last season, I think it will be different this season. Probably won’t have to the players to push J or PnP in a finals series but can definitely pull of a few upsets. Strengths – New recruits, most active clan at the moment, addition of Moo! Weaknesses – Sooky behaviour Opportunities – No idea Threats – Lame tactics/ tantrums that affect how well they do in games (we all remember Spaz last season!) 4th CFZ Biggest question is how they will play without Zut. Still a solid team that could surprise some teams this year. Strengths- Lots of solid players, Dani leaving can only be a good thing, addition of Sinister into the team. Weaknesses – Sin’s Nails, defense may suffer without Zut. Opportunities – Could beat some more fancied clans on less played maps. Threats – People leaving because Zut isn’t there. 5th FV People will probably be surprised I put FV here. The main reason was the lack of activity from their members. If they become active I can easily see them challenging PnP and J for the top place. Strengths – Strong defence, experience playing together, strong on non-standard maps like CZ. Weaknesses – Don’t play much outside of OZTF games, inactivity of key players. Opportunities – Becoming more active would see them right up there for #1. Threats – Once a Cser, always a Cser 6th AP AP have always been able to compete well with all clans but seem to have problems getting their strongest team to play consistently. AP always seem to have a decent side on paper but seem to struggle translating this into results. Strengths – Control of the community, they have the power to influence and dictate the competition through admins, movies and servers, something which should not be taken lightly. Weaknesses – Loss of Sin’s leadership skills, getting the debutant (Mercury) to play, lack of authority in the print media since Stack’s departure, still recovering from the loss of Spoony. Opportunities – developing OZTF to meet their own needs, rumours of a FUH move back to AP to develop client advantages over other teams, luring Spoony out of retirement. Threats –Rival media powers stealing market share and influence power. 7th FP Unfortunately I think FP will struggle this season due to losing almost all of their members. Hopefully they will be able to play all their games without any problems with numbers Strengths – Desire to play, HB's wallet Weaknesses – Loss of members, might have problems fielding a team. Opportunities – New members might bring new skills to FP, A bulldogs style gang rape case involving the 6 previous clans losing their points may give them victory. Threats – Other clans stealing their players. 8th NFI One thing NFI has going for it is that _FLiP_ is there leader. Good to see a new clan in the competition. I think they will struggle in their first year to win games but could pull of some upsets against some of the lower ranked teams. Every clan has to start somewhere and they will no doubt improve over the season. We’ve seen CFZ start at this position and move up, so I expect the same of NFI over the longer term. Strengths – lots of keen members, _FLiP_’s #pants experience Weaknesses – Farily new and inexperienced players, RB’s drinking habits Opportunities – As with FP, hopefully new members can join and help them out. Threats – Other clans stealing their players. Latest Prices in the market ($1 bet) OZTF Winner PnP $1.72 J $2.10 A $13 CFZ $13 FV $22 AP $66 FP $433 NFI $999 Not a lot of value at the top end of the market with PnP and J being heavy favourites. FV seem to present the best value for the punter in the higher end of the market. AP look to be a good long shot, especially with the possibility of picking up players from other clans throughout the season. Are you a problem Gambler?
