its a pick-up-game! | 13-Jul-2004 00:07:51 | |||

Back in the day, on the way to the corner store, after the pocket money was spent, sugared up on the highs of those times... we came up with things to do. Someone started throwing a ball. Before long, youngsters from all around gathered... "Can we join in?" "SURE!" After a while, there was enough to make Teams! There was a group consensus and even teams were made. If not, there was a quick discussion and the teams changed. Why? Because it was best for the good of all. If a team was unfair, mates obviously left and the high energy intensity of a great battle, full of diversity and excitement would decrease. Players quit because things became boring. If the game didn't change to suit the needs of everyone, mates went home. Players also quit when there wasn't a true feeling of unity amongst everyone playing. Did you ever like playing the guys who loved to play to wipe you out? To tackle you down with aggression? Who played because they liked to see their mates laugh when they did something to really 'own' someone or the other side? You know I'm relating this to TF don't you? Games last longer when the overall dominating energy of the field is 'enjoyment for all through quality teamplay'. Remember how you used to try and not think about time as much as possible before school class began or before mum came to pick you up from your best mates? The feeling of 'lacking time' is fucked. Don't worry about waiting for a pug to begin. A pick-up-game wouldn't stop. We're all digital spoilt. Too many ovals. To many heros wanting to be leaders. Not enough realtime group consensus. Your playing in a game where 2 guys are getting tackled by bullies on the side of the field and everyone else is too busy mashing each other up to notice. PHWOAT The way pickup games work is like this... You can trust me. Ledgends don't write often but when they do they write ledgends. People play on a field. People come and people leave. Nobody has time to worry about getting a 'perfect side'. Nobody waits until 8:00am on the handball courts because bill and ted only arrive to school then. You've been there since 7:30 with billly bob! Hey look, Old mate wants to play. They invite Old mate over and he joins in. Old mate invites his mates and before long you've got a whole crew of Old mates. Do Old mates need to stop and start having meetings in order to find a balance amongst each other in a game? When a game continues forever, there is no concern for frags. What the focus becomes is the memory you're left with. What creates memory is an interaction. A bond. This is truth. The moment where you felt connection on the field with an Old mate. A sequence well peformed. A proud team moment well assisted and supported with full enthusiasm is the goal of TF. These moments happen spontaneously. They happen because chaos is allowed and instinctive battle spirit runs free. Enjoy :) |
